Awareness Video

Title: NDCS Close The Gap

Client: National Deaf Children's Society

Brief: To create a campaign video about the challenges deaf young people face in education.  The resource will help NDCS call on the Welsh Government to take action on the education barriers deaf young people face in Wales.  The video petition focused on education/school issues that young deaf people raised from group discussions and they were interviewed on camera so their responses lead the entire piece.

How We Did It

The bulk of the filming was shot in one day.  It involved working closely with the young people and an interpreter by asking questions about the key issues young deaf people face in Wales.

It was important that this video was translated and subtitled in Welsh and English.  It also needed to have voiceover in Welsh and English and a BSL signer.  The voiceover and green screen filming of the BSL signer was done on separate days to the filming of the young people's discussion groups.  Someone from the NDCS welsh office recorded the voiceover for us and one of the young people involved in the filming also contributed to the voiceover on the film.

Delivery Method

The video files were submitted to the Welsh Assembly's Petition Committee and it was the first ever video e-petition to be submitted to the council.  The English and Welsh versions were uploaded to their website via their YouTube channel.  www.ndcs.org.uk/about_us/campaign_with_us/wales/close_the_gap/

Testimonials

A JEM production worked with us to help us create a video which incorporated our NDCS style and got our message across. So far the video has received positive comments from politicians and professionals. We are proud of the video and feel that it is also something that the young people involved can also feel proud of.
